What to Expect at Your Cooling System Maintenance Appointment

Spring is the perfect time to make sure your cooling system is ready to take on the warmer months ahead. Regular maintenance is key to ensuring your system runs efficiently, prevents unexpected breakdowns, and saves you money on energy bills.

But if you’re unsure about what to expect during your spring maintenance appointment, don’t worry; we’ve got you covered! Here’s a breakdown of what you can expect when you schedule your spring system check-up with Gubbels Heating & Air Conditioning.

1. A Thorough Inspection of Your Cooling System

When your technician arrives, they’ll start by performing a detailed inspection of your entire cooling system. This includes checking the thermostat operation, the indoor coil down by the furnace and the outdoor unit.  You can expect your technician to look for signs of wear, leaks, or anything that could affect the system’s efficiency/reliability.

2. Inspecting the Outdoor Unit

While outside, your technician will hook up refrigerant gauges to make sure your unit is properly charged and not leaking refrigerant.  Leaks can develop over time or if the unit gets disturbed.  He will also hose out the unit and check for any critters or insects trying to take up residence.  Mice can chew through wires and bugs can interfere with components such as contactors.

3. Inspecting the Indoor Coil

At the indoor coil, your technician will make sure the coil pan and drain line are free from obstructions in order to prevent water backing up and causing problems.  He will also check your filter and replace it if necessary.  A plugged filter can cause a unit to ice over and prevent the unit from cooling, which can result in a service call.

4. Report Back to You

Once the inspection has been completed, your technician will report his findings, answer any questions you have and offer any tips or insights on keeping your home comfortable.  More than likely you’ll be good to go for another year, but if he finds anything that could affect your comfort, he will be sure to let you know.  As always, we won’t make any repairs until you have been given an upfront price and approve the repair.
